About Gecacitinib
Gecacitinib (also known as Zepuping or jaktinib) is an innovative dual-targeted oral medication approved in China for treating myelofibrosis. It works by blocking both JAK and ACVR1 enzymes to reduce an enlarged spleen, ease symptoms, and improve anemia.
Current Medical Use
- Myelofibrosis (MF): It is approved in China for adults with intermediate-2 or high-risk primary or secondary myelofibrosis. It is often used for patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to older JAK inhibitors.
- Other Conditions: Ongoing trials are exploring gecacitinib for severe alopecia areata, ankylosing spondylitis, and atopic dermatitis.
How to Take It
- Dosage: It is an oral pill usually taken twice a day, typically at 50 mg or 100 mg doses.
- Food Impact: Food can increase how much of the drug your body absorbs, making the dose more potent. Always follow your doctor's exact instructions about taking it on an empty stomach or with food.
